About Us
To create a pedestrian friendly commercial corridor that encourages people to shop a safe and comfortable environment and have a gratifying urban experience.
Camp Bowie District, Inc. is a private sector, not-for-profit public improvement district created in October 2000 by the commercial property owners to revitalize Camp Bowie Boulevard. Improvement efforts include infrastructure improvements, the implementation of beautification projects (including tree planting and landscaping), hosting special events (including the Jazz By The Boulevard festival and Camp Bowie Crawl) and serving as an advocate for all development.
Property owners pay an additional property tax in order to increase economic vitality and redevelopment along the Boulevard. In addition, a membership structure was created to allow merchants and businesses to participate and display their commitment to the area.
The Camp Bowie District runs from University to Loop 820 and includes 7th Street to Montgomery. Since the District is nine miles long with varying unique characteristics, the district is split into three zones.
Zone 1: Cultural Arts:
Zone 2: Ridglea:
Zone 3: University to 1-30
1-30 to Alta Mere /West
Alta Mere to Loop 820
Every day Camp Bowie District works hard to improve The Boulevard through smart planning
and vital improvement projects. Here are some of CBD’s notable achievements:
- Piloted efforts to designate Camp Bowie Boulevard as a priority commercial corridor
in the city.
- Produce two successful annual events, Jazz by the Boulevard
(www.fortworthjazz.com) and the Camp Bowie Crawl to raise awareness of the area.
- Assisted in the creation of a mixed-use ordinance allowing for residential and commercial elements within a compact development area, encouraging pedestrian activity.
- Supports the construction of additional apartments and town homes, which helped spur the redevelopment of several shopping centers, including the Village at Camp Bowie and Frost Center, and the designation of the Ridglea Urban Village.
- Named Highway 80 - Camp Bowie West -and installed new street signs.
- Facilitated a zoning change for property in Ridglea Village to offer a more diverse and pedestrian- friendly development.
- Received a Neighborhood Empowerment Zone designation that provides incentives for central city development.
- Recognized with the 2004 Urban Forestry Award from the Texas Forest Service.
